Introduction. Hepatitis C is one of the major public health problems due to the long period of asymptomatic infection with HCV and the lack of an effective vaccine. Aim. The aim of this study was to evaluate the level of knowledge on the routes of HCV infection transmission and prevention methods among people aged 32 to 55 years. Material and methods. Material used for the study were responses to closed questions contained in the author’s survey interview. The study involved 115 people living in Lublin Province. Results. The vast majority of respondents associated the risk of HCV infection to the provision of medical services, and other routes of transmission are not so well known to respondents. The study revealed that over 43% of those surveyed were mistakenly convinced of the existence of a vaccine against hepatitis C. Conclusions. The level of knowledge of the study group on transmission routes of HCV is insufficient, requiring additions. The study revealed the problem of confusing types of viral hepatitis and the low level of respondents’ awareness in terms of HCV infection risk in everyday life.

Key words: hepatitis C, disease transmission, prevention.
