Introduction. Cardiovascular diseases represent the largest share in the risk of health and life of Polish society. At the initiative of Prof. Marek Krawczyk, Rector of Medical University of Warsaw, every year an educational picnic ‘Medical University of Warsaw – for Warsaw Society’ is being held. During this picnic Warsaw residents can take advantage of free medical examinations and consultations which allow, among others, for early identification of cardiovascular risk factors. Aim. The attempt to assess the prevalence of cardiovascular risk factors among the residents of Warsaw. Material and methods. Preventive examinations conducted among residents of Warsaw during the annual educational and scientific event ‘Medical University of Warsaw – Warsaw Society’. The study was conducted on 25 May 2014 at 9.30 am – 5 pm. We used the method of individual cases, research technique was bulk sheet measurements taken on: glucose, total cholesterol, blood pressure, height and weight. Moreover, the respondents were interviewed for hypertension, tobacco smoking, overweight and obesity. Results. People undergoing medical examinations were most often healthy – almost 72%. 28% suffered from high blood pressure, 4% from diabetes. During the examinations over 43% of them suffered from high cholesterol level, 29% from hyperglycaemia, the average blood pressure in the population was about 135/81mmHg. 8% of examined were overweight and 10% of them declared smoking. Conclusions. Examined people suffered from high blood pressure, diabetes and hypercholesterolemia less often than the general population of Poles. Blood pressure of people who took part in the examination increases with age. Age has moderate effect on total cholesterol. The examined people smoke and suffer from excessive weight gain less often than the general population of Poles
