Introduction. Work is one of the basic determinants of human life. It is not only a source of revenue, but also in some measure of human fulfillment. At work we spend a significant part of life, so a sense of comfort during the execution of our duties is very important. Many factors influence the quality of our work, such as the appropriate remuneration, relationships between employees or requirements. Stress and frustration due to the lack of sufficient professional achievements can lead to the occurrence of burnout. Aim. The aim of the study was the analysis of the phenomenon of burnout in the interdisciplinary team of the Pallium Hospice in Poznań, including doctors, nurses, rehabilitators, psychologist, medical volunteers, social worker, occupational therapist, medical secretary, medical providers and registration workers. Material and methods. The study was conducted among medical personnel of the Pallium Hospice in Poznań, of March and April 2014. The basis for the study was a questionnaire survey. The questionnaire survey was completed by 50 people. Results and conclusions. The study showed relations influencing the level of experienced burnout. Peculiarities of professional individuals who have contact with the terminally ill and their families, the feeling of helplessness, are the main sources of stress that contributes to the burnout. Close relationship with the person suffering, dying and his/her family is a reason for physical and emotional burnout, and treating work of helping others as passion can cause a loss of distance to it and does not maintain the appropriate balance between professional and private spheres.
