Endometriosis is a medical condition whereby endometrium cells flourish outside the uterine cavity. In Poland, an estimated 1 million women suffer from endometriosis. The issue is serious, yet constantly belittled. There are three main symptoms of the condition: pelvic pains, pain during sexual intercourse, and difficulties conceiving [12]. My thesis attempted to address the issue of whether endometriosis has a bearing on the well-being of the women affected, and to establish if the assistance of nurses is a factor in the patients’ recovery and their improved well-being. I wanted to find out how the patients rate the quality of the nurse care in the ward where they were staying. My research revealed that the symptoms of endometriosis may intrude in all spheres of life and prevent the satisfaction of many needs which women consider crucial. 54% of the subjects experienced the feelings of anxiety, frustration, and desolation. 14% of the subjects had difficulties conceiving, and 44% of them were childless. 94% and 64% of the subjects suffered from severe pain during and also outside menstruation respectively. Only 15 out of 150 claimed they did not use painkillers, which proves that pain is the condition’s main symptom and impinges on the well-being of endometriosis-affected women. Staying in the hospital, patients need the specialized assistance of gynecological ward nurses, who, through their professional approach, implement the nursing care plan of the highest stan-dard and educate their patients. The nurses, in cooperation with the hospital’s therapeutic team and the patient’s family, help find the best health solutions which facilitate recovery. The research confirmed that the aforesaid forms of assistance make for the patient’s recuperation, the increased level of satisfaction, and consequently, the improved well-being.

Key words: endometriosis, pain, quality of life, nurse.
