Introduction. Breast cancer is the most common malignant cancer among women in Poland. Physical activity can determine primary and secondary prevention. Aim. The aim of this study was the self-assessment of physical activity as well as of the level of knowledge and importance of physical activity for women subjected to mastectomy. Material and methods. The research was conducted in October 2013 among 40 women after mastectomy from the “Amazon Club” in Kielce. In the study a diagnostic survey was carried out with the use of questionnaires. The tool used to conduct the research was a questionnaire prepared by the researcher, which comprised 27 questions. Results. In the opinion of 82.5% of women physical activity is important for preventing breast cancer. The most popular forms of activity were walks, gymnastics in a group and cycling. Physical activity was taken up by almost half of the women twice a week, but the lack of time was an obstacle. Group activities (85% of the respondents), the most often in the “Amazon Clubs”, are by far more popular than individual activities (15%). After the surgery over 70% of women assess their physical fitness level as good. Conclusions. The Amazons assess their physical fitness level as good. The active lifestyle plays quite an important role in everyday lives of the respondents. They spend their spare time actively, preferably in the “Amazon Club”.
