Introduction and aim. To assess the impact of asthma on daily life and activity of school-age children. Materials and methods. The study used a method of a diagnostic survey. The survey consisting of 34 questions was filled in by 100 parents of children with asthma. 80 polls were received and classified in the database. These children are cared for by the Pulmonary and Allergy Clinic, and stay in pediatric wards. The study was conducted in the period from 09/09/2010 to 05/03/2011 in Kościan. Results. In the group of children studied were 41.25% of girls and 58.75% of boys. Taking into account children's places of residence it can be concluded that in the study group there were comparable numbers of children living in rural areas – 43.75% and living in the city – 56.25%. The biggest number of children tested were 7–8 years old (33.8%). Then there were kids aged 9 to 10 years (25.0%) and children aged 11 to 12 years – 25.0%. The smallest group, taking into account the age of children, were from 13 to 14 years – 16.3%. Conclusions. The longer the period the child suffers from asthma, the lower the child's activity in terms of participation in physical education classes. Both attending classes and participating in physical education classes, as well as using various forms of activities, such as school trips or camps are not associated with the frequency of fits occurring during exacerbations. Children whose parents believe their physical fitness is good spend leisure time more actively in comparison to their peers. There is no significant correlation between the way of spending spare time and the place of residence or the child's age.

Key words: asthma, school-age children, daily life, physical activity, exacerbation of the disease.
