Introduction. Psoriasis is one of the most common inflammatory skin diseases. Despite the fact that psoriasis is not contagious, people suffering from it are the objects of harassment. Caring for people with dermatological diseases is a challenge for the nurse. Aim. The purpose of this study was to assess the psoriatic patients’ level of knowledge about their disease and to examine the patients’ awareness of the possibility of obtaining support from existing support groups, to obtain information about social and care problems of people suffering from psoriasis and to establish the impact of the nurses’ education and labor on resolving them. Material and methods. The research involved 50 patients suffering from psoriasis. The study was conducted by the author’s own questionnaire. Results. According to 82% of the psoriatic patients competency of the nursing team has significantly helped them in their daily skin care. According to 72% of psoriatic patients nurses have willingly talked about the nature of psoriasis, gave advice and explanations on the problems. 16% of the respondents gained knowledge from health professionals, others derived it from the other sources. Conclusions. A nurse has an important role in the treatment of patients with psoriasis. The majority of respondents highly assessed the professionalism of nurses. Knowledge on psoriasis patients comes largely from the media. The diagnosis of psoriasis has become for the patients the cause of many health and social problems. The work and education conducted by nurses and other members of the therapeutic team can significantly help people suffering from psoriasis and their families to reduce negative consequences.
