Aim. Assessment of discriminatory power of admission criteria for Master’s degree programme in Midwifery at Medical University of Warsaw (MUW). Material and methods. Five year classes of candidates who took part in the admission procedure between 2009–10 and 2013–14 (N = 335, women constituted 100% of the total); admission criteria were the following: entrance test exam score and grade point average from the Bachelor’s degree programme; ROC curve analysis (receiver operating characteristics) for admitted/not admitted, and modification of Z statistics to compare AUC (area under the curve); values of Youden Index were established; calculation in STATISTICA 12.5. Results. A comparison of AUC values for the average score and threshold value of the area amounted to 0.500, indicating the lack of a statistically significant difference between the two variables (Z statistics, p > 0.05). However, the total score obtained by candidates for the entrance test exam demonstrated a statistically significant difference (Z statistics, p < 0.001), since each case, regardless of the year of admission, produced an AUC value of more than 0.500. For the test exam, the value of Youden Index always exceeded 0.90, whereas it was always between 0.20 and 0.40 for the grade point average. Conclusions. The entrance exam score is a fundamental factor when making a decision to admit a candidate. The relevance of using the criterion of the grade point average in the admission process for the Master’s degree programme in Midwifery at MUW in the future needs to be reconsidered.
