DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.20883/pielpol.2016.41 Neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) are a group of diseases with different characteristics that develop in the poorest tropical countries. Due to an increase in interest in the intertropical zone countries, an increase in the incidence of the diseases mentioned by the WHO as a ‘neglected tropical diseases’ was noted as well. They can cause permanent disability and even death. The main factor contributing to the spread of these diseases is the tourists’ lack of knowledge on the prevalence and prevention of infections. Therefore, it is important to educate people with an emphasis on prevention in order to reduce the number of new cases.
The aim of the study is to increase the awareness of people traveling to the tropics on little known diseases that occur in different areas of the intertropical zone, as well as informing them of the necessity to introduce appropriate measures concerning prevention.
