Introduction. The right to information on patient health, treatment, and possible complications is one of the fundamental rights of patients. Patients need to be provided with full and comprehensive information on medical service in order to be able to make a decision on further treatment that would be the best for them. Aim. The aim of the study was to evaluate satisfaction of dental clinic patients in respecting patients' rights to information by medical personnel. Material and methods. The study enrolled 100 dental clinic patients (78 women). 61 persons had a higher education, 29 study participants had a secondary education, and the remaining 10 persons had a primary and basic vocational education. The study was carried out with the use of an original anonymous questionnaire. Questions concerned the knowledge of issues related to patients' rights and assessment of the clarity of information. Results. The level of respondents’ education influenced their answers relating to the knowledge of patients' rights. 75% of the respondents with higher education said they were familiar with patients' rights. The gender also influenced the choice of answers: over 65% of women said they had good and very good knowledge of patients' rights. More than 55% of the respondents with higher education correctly indicated that information on patients' rights were stipulated in the Charter of Patients' Rights. Conclusions. 1. Communication between a patient and a doctor was assessed as medium and information provided was insufficient. 2. The present results demonstrated that medical personnel had insufficient knowledge of the importance of providing patients with information. 3. The study showed that there was a correlation between the knowledge of patients and their gender and education level. 4. The present results demonstrated that detailed knowledge of patients' rights was insufficient. 5. It was found out that patients’ satisfaction with information provided influenced their understanding and cooperation with medical personnel as well as decision-making process relating to further treatment.
