Background and aim. Cervical cancer is the second most common cause of death by cancer among women. The study aimed to analyse the level of knowledge of patients hospitalised in the Gynaecology and Obstetrics Department of the Regional Specialist Hospital in Ciechanów about HPV vaccination. Materials and methods. A total of 100 patients hospitalised in the Gynaecology and Obstetrics Department of the Regional Specialist Hospital in Ciechanów. The mean age of the study population was 31 years. The largest proportion of the study group had a higher education degree and were not engaged in a profession related to medicine. A voluntary and anonymous questionnaire study: 29 closed-ended questions and three demographics questions. Techniques of descriptive statistics were used for analysis. Results. Women had a positive attitude towards HPV vaccination. Most respondents had not been vaccinated against HPV, but they saw the need to vaccinate themselves and their daughters. 79% of the total responded correctly to the question of what HPV means. Television and the Internet constituted the main sources of knowledge of the respondents about vaccination (45%). Conclusions Women hospitalised in the Gynaecology and Obstetrics Department had a positive attitude towards HPV vaccination. Most respondents had not been vaccinated against HPV due to high cost of vaccines, but they would recommend it to their friends and colleagues. Family doctors, gynaecologists, and midwives should educate all women reporting for a visit about HPV vaccination. HPV vaccination should be included in the recommended vaccination schedule, but each woman needs to decide on her own whether she wants to be vaccinated.
