Introduction. The purpose of the present article is to describe the key experiences related to the motherhood of women with young children, and to point out the areas which may need modification, education and so forth. . Material and methods. The empirical material for the analysis of the problem was collected on the basis of a study performed on 254 women with young children who lived in a heterosexual relationship. The research method consisted of a Questionnaire for investigating selected experiences related to motherhood. Results. 39% of the women did not plan to have heir first baby, 30% of them admitted to experiencing an unpleasant feeling upon finding out about being pregnant, 18% of subjects suffered a miscarriage, 11% of the women were affected by postpartum depression. Additionally, giving birth was a traumatic experience for 21% of the women, 25% of them decided to have one child only while 22% of them decided to become mothers as a result of their own desire to have a baby. Also, 31% of participants were motivated by a wish to deepen their relationship with their partner while 82% of them returned to work after having their first baby. Conclusions and discussion. On the basis of the obtained results on may conclude that psychologists, counsellors, psychotherapists, and health care professionals should be trained in giving support and assistance in difficult situations related to motherhood.
