Introduction. The purpose of the research was to determine actions taken by circulating nurses to prevent varicose veins. Aim. Due to frequency of occurrence varicose veins was deemed a social disease. Ailments associated with varicose veins are claimed by 50% of women and 20% of men. Standing jobs and sitting lifestyle have a big impact on occurrence of varicose veins. Material and methods. 50 nurses working at the operating theatre in a hospital in Warsaw took part in the research. There were 47 female and 3 male circulating nurses. In order to obtain information author crated questionnaire with 17 questions. Number of respondents in particular age groups was as follow: 6 under 25 years old; 13 between 25-35 years old; 19 between 36-46 years old; and 12 between 46-56 years old. Results. The most respondents (29) rarely rested in position easing the blood flow from lower limbs. 37 of respondents do not take part in any sport activities. The only physical activity was climbing the stairs (24 respondents). Conclusions. Respondents most often chose keeping normal weight and avoiding hot baths as preventive measures.
