Introduction. Myocardial infarction is the most common cardiovascular disease. In the first phase of the disease, it is a life-threatening condition and is one of the most common causes of death. The earliest possible diagnosis of the illness, invasive treatment, early rehabilitation, and nursing care help the patient recover. Aim. The study aimed to present a nursing care plan based on the assumptions of D. Orem's nursing theory, with particular emphasis on the supportive and educational nursing system in a patient with acute coronary syndrome based on a case study. Material and Methods. The case of a 42-year-old man hospitalized due to myocardial infarction with ST-segment elevation (STEMI) was analyzed. The patient underwent reperfusion treatment – PCI with implantation of two stents – DES (with Heparin). Conclusions. The paper emphasizes the importance of using the D. Orem care model to care for a patient with myocardial infarction. The applied methods of assisting in self-care and the type of nursing system were based on assessing the patient's health condition and his needs, depending on the phase of myocardial infarction. Particular attention was paid to the nursing diagnosis concerning, on the one hand, non-compliance with lifestyle recommendations and, on the other hand, readiness to improve knowledge. An essential factor reflecting the possibility of implementing the health education process is the objective educational need of a cardiac patient, expressed in the readiness to improve his knowledge, change behavior and actively participate in the learning process. While staying in the cardiology department, the patient acquires some skills helpful in coping with the disease.
