Aim. The aim of the study was to know nurses’ opinions about sense of satisfaction with selected areas of the motivational process in the hospital. Material and methods. The empirical assessment of the material gathered among professionally active nurses is based on 405 correctly completed questionnaires. For the statistical evaluation the following tests were used: χ2 test of independence, Kruskal--Wallis test (with bilateral comparisons test), Spearman’s ρ-test and ρ-Spearman’s rank correlation coefficient. Results and conclusions. During the study the information was obtained about the connections between separated areas of economic and non-economic motivation, and selected characteristics associated with the place and nature of nurses’ work. The development opportunities and promotion prospects are more positively evaluated by the nurses employed in managerial positions. These people and those working in one shift system and on non-surgical wards better evaluate immaterial motivators. Nurses employed in surgical wards are the least satisfied group in terms of salary.

Key words: motivation, nurses, hospital.
