Introduction. In recent years the number of people at old age has markedly increased. Growing life expectancy results in increasing morbidity. Anemia, nutritional deficiencies and mood disorders are the most common health problems in these patients. Aim. The analysis of the coexistence of mood disorders, anemia and iron deficiency. Material and methods. Twenty-three patients were examined by the geriatric depression scale. Patients were determined in the serum iron concentration and the presence of anemia. Data analysis was performed by Statistica 10.0. Results and conclusions. There was no statistically significant correlation in the group between the presence of anemia, iron deficiency and depressive mood disorders. This study was a preliminary report. The analysis of selected correlations requires a further study among a larger group of patients.
