After the diagnosis and treatment of a stroke, a patient should be taken to the neurological rehabilitation hospital for a further treatment. Planning the treatment and care is necessary to objectively assess the patient’s condition. Clinimetrics is a branch of medical science aiming at elaborating and applying scales enabling to measure clinical features occurring in a patient. Based on their knowledge, skills and experience, nurses can use clinimetric scales to evaluate the patient’s state, health problems and to arrange caring plan according to a given diagnosis. The aim of this paper was to present the most popular clinimetric methods used by nurses to assess the patients’ condition after stroke. In order to evaluate the functional efficiency nurses can apply the Index of Bartz or Katz Scale. Rankin Scale is used to rate the patient’s level of disability. Tests that can be used to assess balance and walk are Tinetti Scale as well as Timed Up & Go Test (TUG Test) with the time criterion. To assess balance Berg Scale or Tandem Balance Test comparing symmetry of loading lower limbs are used. The most popular tool used to evaluate the strength of muscles is Lovett Scale. For the assessment of hand functioning Nine Hole-Peg-Test (NHPT), Frenchay Arm Test as well as Standardised Practical Equipment may be applied. A Clock Drawing Test (CDT) can be applied to confirm the presence of the hemineglect syndrome. A scale used to evaluate the patients’ quality of life after stroke is SA-SIP 30. The possibility to maintain the posture and attempts of posture changes can be used thanks to the Postural Assessment Scale for Stroke Patients.
