Introduction. Working as a nurse requires a commitment to other people. Patient’s problems often result in mental and emotional burden for nurses. Nurses’ burnout is perceived as a professional problem which requires preventive measures, focusing on organizational and structural changes. Aim. The aim of the study was to analyze the influence of selected socio-demographic and work environment factors on the level of emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, job satisfaction, and the overall rate of burnout among nurses. Material and methods. The studied group consisted of 110 nurses. For the measurement of burnout a Maslach (MBI) questionnaire was used, which allows to define three areas of burnout: emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, and reduced sense of personal accomplishment (job satisfaction). The empirical material was analyzed statistically. The level of significance was p < 0.05. Results. The average overall rate of burnout in the studied group was 30.6 ± 20.2. Following factors have an impact on the level of emotional exhaustion: education (p < 0.004), work experience (p < 0.01), financial situation (p < 0.001), relationships with colleagues (p < 0.002) and superiors (p < 0.005). The level of depersonalization is influenced by: financial situation (p < 0.04), work station equipment (p < 0.02), relationships with colleagues (p < 0.004) and superiors (p < 0.02). The level of job satisfaction is determined by: among other things, financial situation (p < 0.008) and work station equipment (p < 0.02). Conclusions. Relationships with co-workers and supervisors, work equipment and financial situation of the respondents determine the level of professional burnout among nurses.
