Introduction. Diabetes is one of the most common civilisation diseases of the modern world. This chronic disease makes it necessary to adapt and sometimes even to completely reorganise one’s whole life. The process of adaptation to the disease consists of many stages, is long-lasting and depends on individual personality features. The literature emphasises the influence of religiousness on faster recovery, easier acceptance of the disease and better quality of life. Aim. The objective of the thesis was to try to analyse the level of religiousness and acceptance of the disease among patients with diabetes and the interrelation among them. Material and methods. The survey was conducted in a group of 100 patients suffering from type 1 and type 2 diabetes, hospitalised at the following wards: Internal Medicine, Nephrology and Internal Diseases, General and Oncological Surgery. The author has used an original survey questionnaire, Acceptance of Illness Scale (AIS) by B.J. Felton, T.A. Revenson, G.A. Hinrichsen and Personal Religiousness Scale (PRS) by R. Jaworski. The adopted significance level was 0.05. Results. The religiousness rate in those polled was 97.53 (SD=28,06), which points to average religiousness of the respondents, higher in women. The level of acceptance of the disease amounted to 27.5 points (median), was average, higher in men and those professionally active. Personal religiousness prevailed in the respondents. Conclusions. It has been proved that the higher the religiousness rate, faith, morality, commitment to religious practices and self-identification with God among patients with diabetes, the lower their level of acceptance of the disease.

Key words: religiousness, acceptance of disease, diabetes.
