Introduction. Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is a relatively common disorder in the developmental age population. It is characterized by pathological reflux entailing the passive backflow of gastric contents from the stomach into the esophagus. The aim of the article is to answer the question whether the ICNP® dictionary can be used in the care of a child with GERD. Case description. The study involved a 2-year-old girl with GERD, hospitalized at the Department of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition of Gdańsk Medical University in November 2017. Based on the results of the observation, medical history and measurements, the child was diagnosed with: vomiting [10025981], diarrhoea [10000630], pain [10023130], nausea [10000859], impaired swallowing [10001033], lack of appetite [10033399], cough [10047143], risk for infection of oral mucous membrane [10037627], underweight [10027316], risk for infection [10015133], anxiety [10000477] and impaired sleep [10027226]. Conclusions. The ICNP® dictionary is an optimal and comprehensive source of terms describing nursing diagnoses and the scope of interventions undertaken in the nursing care for a child with GERD.
