Introduction. Benign prostatic hyperplasia is a commonly occuring urological disorder among men over 50 years old, which most frequently requires pharmacological or surgical treatment. Due to its frequency of occurrence, along with micturiction disorders, it is a social problem which greatly decreases patients’ quality of life. Aim. The aim of this study was presenting the case of a patient with benign prostatic hyperplasia and creating a nursing care plan after transurethral resection of the prostate in the early postoperative period. Case study. 67 years old man admitted to the urology department due to severe symptoms connected with benign prostatic hyperplasia despite earlier pharmacological treatment. The patient was qualified to transurethral resection of the prostate in subarachnoid anaesthesia. Conclusions. Professional nursing care in the early postoperative period is multiperspective and requires specialist knowledge and skills. With their help, the nurse correctly recognizes nursing problems, plans nursing interventions and thus prevents the occurrence or intensification of dangerous postoperative complications.
